Colleges that explicitly
state in their missions a commitment to serving women students are commonly
referred to as Women's Colleges. These institutions have historically
played a vital role in providing access and opportunity in higher education
for young women.
These institutions
were important partners in the PFF programs. With their unique missions
and campus cultures, the Women's College partners allowed doctoral students
to experience faculty life in an environment very different from the
one on their research university campus.
